MENIFEE DESIGN GUIDELINESRIVERSIDE COUNTY

As urban growth began to encroach on the unincorporated Menifee Valley, the County of Riverside sought help from the Downtown Solutions team in establishing a coherent design identity for a hidden and relatively undeveloped area.  The county wanted to preserve Menifee’s historic and natural features – assets that would give the area a sense of place and distinct feel from nearby communities – while accommodating a significant development, including an anticipated 20,000 single-family homes over the next few years.

The Menifee Community Design Guidelines utilized a set of design principles focused on smart growth, human scale, authenticity, and richness of detail and materials.  These principles formed the foundation for site planning, architectural, and landscape guidelines for single-family and commercial uses.  The guidelines were heavily illustrated and followed a simple, easy-to-follow format to meet the needs of a diverse group of users.
