DOWNTOWN SAN DIMAS 20/20 VISIONING CHARRETTECITY OF SAN DIMAS

Downtown San Dimas has long served as the heart of this community in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains.  The area contains the city’s civic center, historic buildings, and unique businesses in a pedestrian-friendly, Western-themed setting.  The community and civic leaders initiated efforts to preserve and build on these assets by participating in a five-day visioning charrette to help guide development over the next twenty years.

Prior to the charrette, the Downtown Solutions team reviewed the existing zoning code, created an online survey to solicit public input, made several site visits, and met with the citizen steering committee to prepare for the charrette. The team also developed advertising materials and a pre-charrette workbook that briefed the public on the charrette process and Downtown planning issues.  The charrette included presentations, walking tours, group exercises, and group discussions.

At the conclusion of the process, Downtown Solutions prepared a City Council presentation and the Directions for Downtown booklet that summarized the findings from the charrette and identified recommendations for future actions.
